| Rams are
Undefeated National-2 Champs |
Playing their
toughest opponent for the fourth
time in two seasons, 1-1-1 in the
previous three, the East Windsor
Rams came into their spring finale
with aspirations of playing a great
match against a familiar and
formidable foe, the arch-rival
Freehold Strikers.
The Freehold Strikers (5-0-4) came
into Sunday’s match also undefeated,
having competed to a 1-1 tie with
the Rams earlier this spring. So, as
you could have expected, Sunday’s
finale between the Rams and Strikers
was another closely contested
affair, with a fair share of ups and
downs.
Through the first thirty-two minutes
of the contest, The Rams pushed the
attack and twice led by a goal.
However, the always game Freehold
Strikers would match them
stride-for-stride, twice tying the
score and playing even into the 32nd
minute of play.
It was in the 32nd minute that
Christian Coridon hit the
contemporary “shot heard around the
World,” ripping twine with a
beautiful top, right corner goal
from just inside the penalty area.
The goal gave the Rams a 3-2 lead;
and, this time it would be a lead
that the contentious Freehold
Strikers could not overcome.
Gregory Ewanis gave the Rams a
two-goal lead when his corner kick
deflected off of a Freehold defender
and into the net. The goal was
Gregory's 5th of the season. He
added two assists on Sunday, and led
the Rams with six helpers this
spring.
The feisty Freehold Strikers added a
third goal to close to within one,
but the Rams quickly responded with
their fifth, and three within six
minutes to secure the 7-3 victory.
Sean Dailey finished the afternoon
with four goals, and led the team
with fourteen this spring.
Christopher Coridon netted his fifth
of the spring. Corralling several
saves and playing steady in goal,
Rams keeper Oliver Watkins was able
to record his career best 8th
victory this spring.
Tremendous energy and a championship
effort provided by: Oliver Watkins,
Jamal Anderson, Jack Metzheiser, TJ
Korsah, Umair Sayeed, Christian
Coridon, David Winick, Tyler Paul,
Gregory Ewanis, Christopher Coridon,
Thomas Prummer, Sean Dailey, and
Charlie Hulme.
Congratulations to the EW Rams for
going undefeated and winning the
MOSA National-2 Championship! |
